Evergreen Maytag

by Gary
(England)

I have an nineteen-year-old Maytag Washing Machine. It was a basic model: large capacity, self cleaning and a couple of other "thrills" that could go with a washer.

Actually, it came with a twin: a dryer. I bought that particular brand because of the reputation that Maytag had. I asked repair men when it came to working on different brands, which did they prefer. Maytag won every time.

It was explained to me that the different mechanisms on my washer was a lot less complicated than any other brand. At one questioning the repair man even opened the various washers he had on the display floor and showed the different working parts.

It was quite convincing. The number of repairs that I have had is four: fuse blown, belt replaced and twice on a gasket of sorts at the top of the machine. Only once did I need to call the repair man, the rest were done with a few instructions-just go and get the part and do it yourself.

The way it is constructed, the washer is easy to get into and with room to spare. No complicated locking or hinges, just pop and go. I've been incredibly happy with my decision over the years and am currently looking to buy another washer.
I am doing so now because I can take my time and shop as carefully as I like. The old Maytag is still doing fine and probably will continue to do so but I am looking for a model that not only is dependable but saves on water and energy. Even when I do buy a new one, the old one will be kept.
