fisher and paykel washer problems - I have a Fisher and Paykel washer. I have replaced the circuit board and the pump and the plastic agitator (all the fins fell off). The Manufacturer claims the direct drive motor never wears out, however, vitrually every thing else does. The fill valve is now leaking into the tub when the machine is off. We have turned off the hot water to the unit and it has stopped leaking, which means we are washing each load with cold water. This is just another one of the cheap plastic parts on this unit that has fallen apart.

The matching dryer is actually a GE unit with Fisher and Paykel graphics. The dyer drum rides on some felt like fabric instead of rollers or bearings. Once the felt wore out the grinding noise was so loud we couldn't stand it. The repair estimate was 60% of a new dryer so we threw it away and bought something else.

My last washer and dryer (Maytag) lasted almost 18 years. I thought I was buying an upgrade with the Fisher and Paykel. They have not even made it 8 years and they are shot. I found my clothes no cleaner than before. The only positive was the reduced time the clothes spend in the dryer due to the faster spin speed of the washer.

I personally believe that all the new technology only increases the price and the things that will go wrong. The service people only seem to be guessing when trying to make the repairs.

The ironic part of the story is that I sell appliances and I will not sell this product line to customers.
