The main reason front loading washing machines are preferable to a top loader is that the control of the whole wash process is attainable, whereas it is impossible to achieve the control of the four factors of the cleaning process in a top loading machine.

To create the best environment for each fabric and level of soiling and even disinfection by thermal means can only be done in a front loader.

The height of the water level controls the mechanical action and the dilution level of the detergent from a strong mix for cottons with maximum mechanical action at high temperatures to disinfect, with a low level of water (dip level. Then for your woollens and delicates a high dip level low temp , gentle mechanical action, and diluted chemical action.

Then come back and read the review to choose the right machine for you.

So to control the four factors in the cleaning process which are Mechanical action, Chemical Action, Temperature, and Time.

A top loader has little or no control over Mechanical action, to get a strong chemical mix with the high water levels in a top loader would cost a fortune, and the machines frequently come without heaters to control the temperature, so no control other than by mixing the incoming water supply.
