The GE Washing Machine - Built To Last Forever

The GE Washing machine had its humble beginnings in the early 20th century when scientist, Charles Steinmetz and his small group of employees developed an electric washing machine in a small laboratory located in his backyard in Schenectady, New York. They put their first electric washer for home use on the market in 1930.

So when it comes to washing machines, there are over seventy years of experience built into the GE washing machines.

By the 1960’s, General Electric had produced washing machines with most of the options we have available to us today. Temperature, speed and spin controls were built in and the GE washing machine was at the front of the line in innovation.

As with their other products, the company has never stopped developing the washing machine to keep up with modern technology. From portables to extra large capacity washers, there is a GE washer to suit everyone’s tastes and needs.

The color choices of General Electric washers now include platinum, black, metallic, champagne, red and white. They have also gone green -- environmentally, that is. Most GE washers are energy qualified with the Energy Star seal.

Top and Front Loading Models From GE

These washers range in size from King to Colossal and boast up to 41 cycles. Twenty of their twenty-eight models are Energy Star approved. Patented technologies include HydroHeater, HydroMotion, PerfecTemp, HydroView, HydroWash and HydroWave.
  • HydroHeater - Raises the temperature of the water to provide better cleaning and sanitizing of laundry.
  • HydroMotion - Reverses washing action for better cleaning combined with gentle motion.
  • HydroWash System with Infusor - This frontload wash technology saves as much as 90 percent of energy and 14 gallons of water.
  • HydroWave - Varies the speed according to the type of clothing you are washing. Longer and slower washing makes for better cleaning and more gentle treatment.
  • HydroView - Glass Lids that allow you to see into your washer without stopping the cycle by opening or lifting the lid.
  • PerfecTemp - Adjusts water temperature according to the specifications of fabric care.
The technologies available vary from one model to the next and controls vary according to the model as well. Some models use rotary controls with LED and others use buttons. There are even models that use touchscreen control.

Highly Notable Models

The GE Profile WPDH8800JMG (champagne), WPDH8800JWW (white), WPDH8800JMV (red) are especially notable for unique technology and colossal capacity. These GE washers can hold three times as much as normal washers and have the latest in conveniences including:
