Sucky GE Profile Washer

I bought the GE Profile washer and dryer(though I should have known better) a couple of years ago after an extensive remodel of our home.
I bought it because it was one of only two sets on the market at the time that had a glass door and was a top-loader, which I love. The dryer works just dandy, and also has a glass door. I hated the other brand's dryer pull-it-out-from-a-trap-door-on-top lint screen, so that the lint flies all over your laundry room.
The GE Profile washer has two major flaws that drive me nuts. There is no water level adjustment. If the washer decides that your 50 lb. load of laundry can be washed with one gallon of water, then that is what it does. My laundry is never fully clean or fully rinsed. The only 'cycle' that actually puts plenty of water in is the throw rug cycle, which is usually too much water for a normal load.
The other flaw is the knotting of garments. It doesn't matter if you choose hand-wash, gentle, normal or vigorous. It doesn't matter if you use lots of water, or hardly any. Any article that has sleeves or legs will get tied in knots with every other article in the load. Many articles get damaged due to this action. AND they don't get clean.
You would think that after 80 years of making washing machines, that GE would get a clue. I realize the need for saving water, but dirty clothes is not the answer, and taking the adjustment option away from the consumer, is like telling us we are all wasteful and stupid, then making us resort to using too much water or living with dirty clothes.
A side effect of using the throw rug cycle with too much water is that a normal load will become unbalanced easily, and the washer will walk it's way across your floor, damaging that as well.
