Whirlpool Duet Front Loading Automatic Washer GEW925OPW1
I have a Whirlpool Duet front loading automatic washer GEW925OPW1.
We have owned Whirlpool brand washers and dryers for years and have always found them to be reliable. We have moved around the country and bought Whirlpool products for 6 homes.
This particular unit is front loading and uses less water than a top loading model. We like that about it. This design also allowed us to add a shelf above the unit that we can use for storage, folding clothes, etc. For both of those reasons we like this unit much better than previous models we’ve owned. I can’t find anywhere the capacity is listed, but we have never had a problem washing blankets or several large beach towels at the same time.
We have had two service issues since buying this unit in 2006, 3 years ago. The first had to do with the installation. The drain hose was not properly attached to the drain pipe and we experienced a leak. That was not the washer’s fault; it was the installation team’s mistake. The second issue we had was with the control board. It failed and the technician had to make two house calls to solve it. The service calls and replacement board were covered by warranty so did not cost us anything.
This model is quieter than other Whirlpool units we’ve had and has more options to select from. You have to be careful with a front loading washer to allow a few seconds for the water to drain if you interrupt a wash cycle and need to open the door, but other than that, this is the best washer we’ve owned.
