Whirlpool Duet HT 9200S washing machine

by Anna

This review is for the Whirlpool Duet HT 9200S washing machine. I bought this about 1 1/2 years ago, as I wanted a front-loading model, and at the time it was on sale.

It has a very large 4.1 cubic foot capacity. It also has many features that I didn't have on my old washer, such as extra rinse cycle, laundry sanitize cycle, and high spin speed to extract more water out of the clothes before drying. There are things that have disappointed me in purchasing this washer. In general, the new front loaders are supposed to use less water and energy, and are supposed to be gentler on clothes. However, I have found out that this model of Whirlpool Duet is very rough on the clothes, causing the clothing to wear out faster than I have been accustomed to with a conventional top loading model. I should have read Consumer Reports before purchasing this model, because in their review of this machine, they also mentioned in the footnotes that it was rough on the clothes.

Also, it is almost mandatory to use the extra rinse cycle, because with the standard rinse cycle, detergent residue may remain in the clothes. It doesn't clean clothes as well as my old top-loader. I have a 1-year old baby, and the washing machine can't completely get the food stains out of baby's clothing and bibs. Perhaps the HE detergents that are recommended for use with a front loader are not as effective as the traditional formulas.

Another thing that has disappointed me about this washer is the time it takes to finish a load, with the shortest cycle taking almost an hour. In short, if asked if I would purchase this washer again, the answer would be No. I would look for another Brand / model and do my homework before making such an expensive purchase.

Whirlpool Sucks
by: Anonymous

I have a Whirlpool Duet HT and it is the most miserable piece of junk I have ever owned. Not only do I have to wash things for hours TRYING to get them clean and/or get all the soap out, they STILL come out dirty. I have tried different settings, pre-treating, bleach, you name it and nothing works to get the clothes clean.

I washed five pairs of jeans on heavy-duty setting + pre-soak AND I pre-treated. I washed them again on Normal/Casual several times to get all the soap out. The jeans still showed dirt in the pocket area and the knees. After spending nearly all day washing them, I gave up. Today I have washed a load of whites on the Whitest White (Do they know what WHITE is??) setting on normal soil and added beach. It took an hour & a half and the clothes are DIRTY! I am now washing them AGAIN on heavy soil with a pre-soak and even more bleach! It will take over 2 hours and I bet they will still be dirty.

What a waste of $1,200.

Your washer

This review is completely off base. You can't expect the washer to do everything! Pre-treating does WONDERS for clothes. I have this washer, and in no way, no how, did it EVER take an hour to do a load - 1/2 hour tops.
